First of all, what would a post on January 2nd be without wishing you all a happy new year!

As I’m sure you can tell from the date of our last post, we took a nice little (much needed) break from pretty much all of the routine busyness in our lives. That said, our break really didn’t end up being the lazy-unproductive-pj-wearing-sleeping in-downtime that I had imagined.

You see, about 3 days before Christmas, Katie and I were sitting together on the couch and got a bit ambitious. We decided to throw together a list of everything we wanted to do around the house over the course of the next year or so. Literally everything. It ended up being a full 3 pages.

We had things jotted down as simple as “hang this picture on that wall” and as complicated as “finish basement” and “update kitchen”. The plan was to pick a couple SMALL tasks from the list and complete them over our Christmas break. Then, somehow, quite randomly, I decided to begin photoshopping our ideal basement remodel that night.

This was our basement a week ago.

When we moved in, the basement was partially finished. You know, nasty old concrete floors with vinyl tiles glued on top of it, old paneling, and this old man wallpaper.

Judging by the style of wallpaper, the bar, and the old 1960s playboy that fell out of our ceiling when adjusting tiles, this was clearly the man cave. Our goal was to make it a nice place to hang out with friends and family. So after a few hours geeking around that night, this is where we ended up.

It took very little convincing to get Katie on board. She loved it, made a couple of suggestions and then asked that dreaded question…. “You think we could do it over break?” — To which I responded with that dreaded answer… “Psh- for sure!” – Little did I know what we were in for.

And so we’ll document our journey for you over the next few posts.
