As I mentioned in the last post, after coming up with the idea for the basement facelift, we spelled out every detail of what would need to be done to get it looking like the picture above. On paper, it didn’t sound so intimidating, in reality, it was..
Our list looked a bit like this:
1) Find a home for all of our stuff being stored down there.
2) Remove Wallpaper (our favorite)
3) Clean Walls
4) Paint Drop Ceiling Rails
5) Paint Walls
6) Reface Bar
7) Paint Bar
8) Lay Floor
9) Install Moulding
After making the list and checking it twice, we put it aside, and celebrated Christmas with our families. Then, the day after Christmas, we got to work.
We began organizing and cleaning. The bulk of the boxes were books so Katie went through them sorting them into keep and donate piles. Once we had it condensed enough to fit into the closet, we put it away and began scrubbing the walls. In a matter of one evening we took the basement from this.
It was a good start! And the amount of time it took us was motivational. We were excited to move onto the next step… Painting!
It’s amazing what a little bit of tidying up can do. How do you store things in your basement? Do you just pile high? Or do you have a system?
