(micro)Wave Goodbye

microwave goodbye _ This Nest Is Blessed

We knew it was going to have to happen at some point or another, I just didn’t think it would be so soon. Drywall removal is one of those things that really isn’t all that bad but it freaks you out because of how destructive it really is. Well, as it turns out, not everybody had microwaves in the 60s (when this house was built) so the kitchen was retrofitted for one sometime thereafter. And retrofitted is an understatement. They built the thing its own freaking soffit.

I busted out this drywall box just to reveal the screws and plug in order to remove the microwave.

It wasn’t until we got this thing unscrewed, unplugged, and unhinged that we realized just how big this thing actually was. Who even makes microwaves this big? There’s even a seemingly unnecessary 9 inches of plastic to the left of the door.

We don’t really use the microwave all that often but do use it enough to justify keeping one around so we are going to replacing this beast of a m’wave with this little guy.

Anyone else out there finding odd, crazy, or completely illogical things (like microwave soffits) in your projects???? Sometimes you wonder what people were thinking…

PS – More and more I’m realizing that this is quite the undertaking. Is it okay that I’m shaking in my (work)boots a bit?
